NARI is the story of the women who helped build the British Bangladeshi community.

From the political awakening of the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 to the streets of London's East End, this book traces the extraordinary journey of women whose contributions have too often remained overlooked. They organised communities, raised families, challenged racism, entered public life, built institutions, and transformed British society—often without recognition.

Drawing on community archives, oral histories, published research, and decades of historical documentation, NARI brings together the lives of pioneers, organisers, councillors, parliamentarians, judges, academics, artists, journalists, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. It celebrates not only those whose names became widely known, but also the countless women whose quiet acts of service laid the foundations upon which future generations would stand.
